On July 8, 2020, Attorney General (AG) William Barr set a new briefing schedule in a matter in which he had previously directed the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA or Board) to refer a case to him for review of its decision; in his original order of June 17, 2020, the AG had requested the opening briefs be filed by July 17, 2020, reply briefs by July 31, 2020, and briefs from amici by July 31st, as well.
The AG noted that on June 25, 2020, Respondent’s counsel had filed a motion to extend the briefing deadlines by 90 days and that on July 1st, an attorney representing potential amici had requested a 180-day extension. As such, the AG ordered that the parties’ briefs must be filed by September 15, 2020, and briefs by amicus curiae by September 29th. Reply briefs are due that day, as well.
